Seniors Centre
Woolgoolga Seniors Centre resulted from a project initiated, run and completed by the Club in 5 years (1999-2004) with project management, labour and a direct contribution of over $90,000 to the $420,000 Centre. Here is an article written in April 2014 for the Seniors Centre’s 10th anniversary.
The Seniors Centre is an outstanding example of Rotary members contributing to their community, and was officially opened by the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia the Honourable John Anderson on 3rd May, 2004.
It began as a project of the Woolgoolga Rotary Club in 1999/2000. Charles Phipps became the project co-ordinator and continued in that role through to completion. The following people freely donated their professional services and expertise:
- Charles Phipps – project co-ordinator
- Keith Messer – project manager
- Steve Abrahams – building design
- John Tozer – construction engineering
- Michael Brennan – electrical engineering
- David Conalin and Loris Pigani – accounting
- Deborah Kuhn – project advisor and liaison officer
The completion of the Centre would not have been possible without the assistance and invaluable support of:
- The Department of Transport and Regional Services – grant of $137,500
- The Bananacoast Community Credit Union – grant of $30,000
- The Lions Club of Woolgoolga – grant of $20,000
- The Coffs Harbour City Council – fee exemptions and $90,000 interest- free loan
- Rhonda Johnstone – donation of the lead light entrance panel
- Carl Freeman and the Envite crew – landscaping the grounds
- Country Energy – relocation of power supply
